Illustration Friday: Swim

This week's Illustration Friday word is 'Swim'.

Here is my effort:

This is one of my illustrations that I created for a client last year. I wanted a washed-out sea pattern over the swim wear so I updated the image with inky washes multiplied over the original.  I added splashes to the background for a watery effect. The hair works well and looks almost like waves of the tide in the locks.

Our class has decided to do our own Illustration Friday - same concept but we choose the weekly topic and submit on Tuesdays instead.

I'm working on a submission for the annual Penguin Book Cover competition so I need to get my head down. Deadline is April 9th so not long to finish off my final edits. I'll post my idea when it is done and dusted!

Illustration Friday: Eye Glasses

So my new thing to do each week is participate in Illustration Friday. The jist is that a new word is selected each week every Friday and you have until the following Friday to illustrate this word and upload your interpretation on to the website.

Last week's topic was 'Eye Glasses'.

Having studied Fashion & Textile design I still keep a tab on the collections (and trends in general) and like to illustrate faces/figures/clothing...I came across the PRADA Spring Summer 2013 eyewear flicking through the March issue of Vogue and took to Style.com to view other pieces from the collection. I LOVE these cute flower glasses. The geeky thick black frames and contrasting delicate flowers are great and the colour palette is poppy and really stood out to me.

Here's my effort:

I drew the face and glasses in pen and added the colour in Photoshop. The outfit I painted and then applied an 'oil paint' filter effect.

Get A Grip

To fund my tuition fees I've been working part time in a hair salon on reception. (No loans for me). Now this isn't any old blue rinse salon. This is an award-winning, forward-thinking team of talented individuals. Behind the day-to-day appointments the team are involved in numerous industry events and editorials. For some of my recent portfolio work I have taken some some of these images and turned them into illustrations. The aim is to produce a collection of images that can be used to promote the salon and get me perfecting my figurative drawing skills. I've also been brushing up on my screenprinting skills down in the print studio. This is an ongoing production so keep checking back to see where it goes...

“The human race is the most stupid and unfair kind of race. A lot of the runners don't even get decent sneakers or clean drinking water.

Some runners are born with a massive head start, every possible help along the way and still the referees seem to be on their side.

It's not surprising a lot of people have given up competing altogether and gone to sit in the grandstand, eat junk and shout abuse.

What the human race needs is a lot more streakers.”

MAKING IT UP

Completely forgot I had drawn this. Discovered it in one of my many files on the computer today. It's like finding a fiver in your back pocket! This one is for Shell - a lovely and very talented make-up artist. Take a look at her work here.

COOL BRITANNIA

This is Noel. I've been working on a 'How To...' project that works as an instruction guide on making the perfect cup of tea. The project's theme is Cool Britannia and I wanted Noel who is a pioneer of BritPop to be the guide's narrator. The guide is currently being made into a cocktail menu so check back later to see the finished piece!
